Syntagma Square is the central square of Athens and the political heart of the city, located in front of the Hellenic Parliament building, where the historic Old Royal Palace once stood. Plaka and Anafiotika are adjacent historic neighborhoods in central Athens, nestled below the Acropolis. Plaka is a lively, scenic area featuring 19th-century neoclassical architecture, cafes, and shops. Tucked within it, Anafiotika is a quiet, hidden "island" of whitewashed houses built in the 19th-century Cycladic style, providing a peaceful contrast to the city.
