About Panathenaic Stadium
The first modern Olympic Stadium in the world
The Panathenaic Stadium, located in Athens, is the world's only stadium built entirely of white Pentelic marble. Originally built in the 4th century BC and rebuilt by Herodes Atticus in the 2nd century AD, it hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Known as Kallimarmaro, it serves as the final, historic handover point for the Olympic flame.
