A historic seaside city in the Peloponnese, with an elegant old town, Venetian fortresses and a central place in the story of modern Greece.
Set on the Argolic Gulf, Nafplio brings together centuries of Greek, Venetian and Ottoman history. It became a centre of the emerging Greek state after its liberation in 1822 and served as its capital before the government moved to Athens in 1834. The Church of Agios Spyridon is linked to the assassination of Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias in 1831. Palamidi, the Venetian fortress built in the early 18th century, rises above the city with eight bastions and wide views across the bay. Its capture in 1822 was a decisive moment in Nafplio's liberation. The fortress can be approached by road or by a long, steep stairway from the town. Below it, the older fortifications of Acronafplia trace the city's earlier history. Offshore, Bourtzi stands on a small island at the entrance to the harbour, once part of the town's maritime defences. In the old town, narrow paved streets lead between neoclassical houses, churches and squares. Syntagma Square is a natural starting point, with the Archaeological Museum housed in a former Venetian storehouse and the historic Vouleftiko nearby. The waterfront offers views towards Bourtzi, while cafes, local shops and tavernas give visitors reasons to linger. These landmarks describe the destination; individual visits can be planned independently after arrival.
Enter your pickup address when booking and be ready there at the selected time. Keep your phone available so your driver can contact you. The destination is Nafplio city; Palamidi fortress has a separate entrance and is not the drop-off point for this card.
Nafplio is a city destination that you can explore independently after arrival. Opening hours and admission requirements apply to individual monuments, museums and boat services, not to the city itself. Check the official information for the attractions you plan to visit. Wear comfortable shoes for the old town, where paving can be uneven. Bring water and sun protection in warm weather. The stairway to Palamidi is steep and demanding; road access to the fortress entrance is also possible. Plan that visit separately from your transfer to the city. Your booking covers the one-way transfer to Nafplio. A return journey, driver waiting time and onward journeys to individual attractions are not included.
Greekaway provides the transfer only. The venue’s opening hours, operation or access may have changed without our knowledge — including temporary or permanent closure. Before booking your transfer, please confirm directly with the venue that it is open and accessible on the day and time of your visit. A transfer booking does not guarantee entry or admission.
